Animal rescuers capture crocodile in residential building

A one-metre crocodile was discovered in a Sham Shui Po residential building.

The reptile is said to be a young Siamese Saltwater Crocodile Hybrid and is discovered in a building on Tai Po Road.

At around 1 p.m. on Wednesday, police phoned the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or SPCA, about residents finding an injured crocodile. SPCA deployed several inspectors to the scene and found the reptile was hiding under a pile of objects on the podium. Inspectors managed to capture the reptile with rope and net.

SPCA says the crocodile seemed to have injured a leg and has send the reptile to Tsing Yi centre for care while waiting for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department to receive it.

SPCA reminds residents not to take crocodiles as pets for personal safety and to avoid breaking the law.
