Venezuela quake rescue continues as death toll rises to 1,430

At least 1,430 people have died, government officials said Saturday, as victims of Wednesday's earthquake in Venezuela continued to arrive at a government facility in La Guaira on Saturday.

Thousands have been injured, and tens of thousands have been reported missing.

The frantic search continued Saturday - mostly by civilians, with a growing number of international rescue teams joining the effort.

Dozens of bodies recovered from collapsed buildings were left outdoors in temperatures above 90 degrees until family members identified them.

Funeral home workers estimated Saturday that more than 200 bodies were kept at the site at one point, while a line of people formed outside to carry out the identification process.

Some families were struggling to come up with the $350 to $450 needed to cremate their loved ones and said government employees told them the bodies would be taken to another location until a funeral home could pick them up.
