Senior legislator He Wei was in Tehran from Thursday to Friday to attend the state funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's former supreme leader slain in the first wave of the US-Israeli attacks in the Middle East war.
He, the Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, joined a Russian delegation of officials to pay respect and held separate meetings with Iran's president and parliament speaker during his stay.
He extends deep condolences and sincere sympathies to Iran's government, its people and the family of Khamenei over his tragic passing.
He says China hopes the Islamic Republic will restore security, stability and development as soon as possible under the new leader, and stands prepared to jointly promote the steady, long-term development of their comprehensive strategic partnership.
Welcoming the signing of the US-Iran ceasefire understanding, the lawmaker adds it is hoped that both sides will implement the achieved outcomes, remain rational and consolidate the momentum of negotiations.
He notes that China expects to see the issue of the Strait of Hormuz properly handled.
