Shooting at NY 4th of July cookout wounds 8, including 4 children

Police in New York City said a shooting at a Fourth of July cookout near Coney Island beach left eight people wounded, including four children.

A 21-year-old woman was in critical condition while the others are expected to survive.

The shooting broke out Saturday night in the courtyard of an apartment building about a block from the famed Coney Island boardwalk, according to police.

A suspect wearing a black mask fired into a courtyard where a family had gathered for a cookout.

Police said the shooter fled but investigators recovered a gun.
