As artificial intelligence is reshaping workplaces, a latest survey found more than 90 percent of responodents believe ESG knowledge can help their career development, while many see AI as an important tool in advancing ESG practices.
The survey was released by the International Chamber of Sustainable Developement,as part of its fifth anniversary forum on ESG and AI. Conducted in May, 300 Hong Kong residents aged 21 to 45 with tertiary education or above were interviewed.
Results show 93.3 percent believe ESG knowledge benefits their current jobs, while 93.4 percent say it will also help their future career development.
This finding also echoes the goverment's direction. Earlier on Friday, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry Sun Dong said the goverment is creating more opportunities for the development of green technology in Hong Kong.
He says government is actively strengthening Hong Kong's innovation and technology ecosystem to provide better conditions for various technology sectors, including green tech.
The survey also found that 72.7 percent consider artificial intelligence important to the future of ESG, saying AI can accelerate data collection, improve strategic decision-making and provide new ways of problem solving.
Chairman of ICSD, Dr. Angus Yip says AI and ESG can complement each other.
ANGUS YIP, Founding Chairman of ICSD: "In the area of AI usage, environment, social and governance, these three elements, they are interrelated."
The organisation says the survey results show that market efforts alone are not enough to meet the needs of talent transformation, and more government-led education efforts will be necessary.
