Xi Jinping exchanges congratulatory messages with North Korean leader

President Xi Jinping has exchanged letters with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to reinforce their alliance, in celebration of the 65th anniversary of the neighbours' friendship treaty.

Xi says the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance laid a solid legal and political foundation for the "militant friendship" forged in blood between the two peoples.

Xi mentions the important consensus that he reached with Kim last month which has provided strategic guidance for developing traditional ties while keeping pace with the times.

Kim, in his letter to Xi, lauds their close cooperation and unwavering support for each other.

Kim has vowed to carry foward the DPRK-China friendly relations to new heights and develop it into the strongest and most strategic model of relations between socialist countries.
