Sources said a US citizen claimed to have concealed a bomb in a suitcase at the Hong Kong International Airport earlier this week.

The police subsequently arrested the man after he was found to have carried weapons including a stun gun and switchblade.

The incident took place on Monday when reports indicated the suspect was escorting his girlfriend's 13-year-old son to the airport to board a flight to the Philippines alone.

The man was rejected after he requested HK Express staff to accompany the boy to the aircraft.

His request for the staff to help remove some checked baggage was also rejected.

The suspect then threatened the airline's staff saying that a bomb was concealed in the luggage, after which HK Express staff immediately alerted the police.

Authorities subsequently searched the man and found that he was carrying weapons including a stun gun, a switchblade as well as two e-cigarettes.

He was found to have breached the Aviation Security Ordinance and was arrested for possession of offensive weapons.
