HK temperatures rise through Thursday and Friday

Hong Kong marked -- Dashu or Major Heat -- the 12th solar term in China's traditional calendar, which denotes one of the hottest periods today. Under a Very Hot Weather Warning, temperatures are reaching 34 degrees Celsius.

Forecasters are also monitoring a tropical cyclone that could affect the city over the weekend.

A subtropical ridge brought generally sunny and extremely hot conditions to southeastern China. Around midday, temperatures exceeded 33degrees across much of Hong Kong, with Sheung Shui recording more than 35 degrees.

The Hong Kong Observatory forecasts another day of fine and extremely hot weather on Friday. The Observatory expects winds to strengthen along the Guangdong coast from late Saturday into Sunday, bringing squally showers, thunderstorms and rough seas as the storm approaches.
