The Hong Kong Observatory will assess whether a higher tropical cyclone warning signal is needed later between 9pm to 12am, depending on the landfall location and local wind conditions.
The Observatory issued the Strong Wind Signal No.3 at 1:20pm on Saturday.
The Education Bureau announced that kindergartens and schools for children with physical and intellectual disabilities will close after noon.
The Tropical Storm Noul is centered about 330 kilometres east-southeast of Hong Kong. It is moving west-northwest at about 20 kilometres per hour. The Observatory said over the past few hours, Noul has been moving steadily across the northeastern part of the South China Sea, gradually approaching the coast of eastern Guangdong and intensifying slightly.
Affected by its outer rainbands, local winds are expected to strengthen gradually, with increasing squally showers tomorrow. Based on the current forecast track, Noul will make landfall near Huizhou to Shanwei on Sunday morning.
