The Centre for Health Protection remind the public to avoid contact with soil or muddy water after typhoons with heightened vigilance against melioidosis infection.

High-risk groups, including the elderly and people with underlying diseases, should also take extra caution.

Humans can become infected with melioidosis through contact with contaminated soil and surface water, especially through skin abrasions or wounds and inhalation of contaminated dust or water droplets.
