HKSTP unveils clinical updates on first public cord blood bank

Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation holds a results showcase to unveil clinical updates regarding the city's first licensed stem cell production and first public cord blood bank.

Hong Kong Regen Medtech, HKSTP's partner company obtains the city's first license for stem cell production.

Meeting international pharmaceutical standards, it will operate a government-recognised facility at the Hong Kong Science Park to manufacture advanced therapy medicinal products for clinical trials.

The license is valid for five years.

Meanwhile, Mononuclear Therapeutics runs the city's first public cord blood bank, accredited by Association for the Advancement of Blood & Biotherapies, storing more than 2,000 cord blood units.

One preliminary finding is that cord blood infusion within 48 hours after birth may help repair brain damage and improve children's developmental ability.

To support Hong Kong's future development, the corporation says it aims to attract talents and speed up the commercialisation of technology outcomes.

The Science Park hosts over 360 life-science companies, covering stem cells, gene editing, personalised cancer vaccines, and immunotherapy.
