The Labour Department on Saturday says authorities have issued 36 fixed penalty notices to workers who smoke on construction sites. This comes after the government implemented an ordinance banning workers to smoke on sites.

The ban has come into force for about two weeks. Speaking on a radio programme, Labour Department's Commissioner Sam Hui says they have inspected more than 1,200 construction sites and issued 36 penalty notices. He says the department may consider prosecuting contractors for two of the cases because they fail their supervisory role.
