Storm Dolphin continues to bring heavy rain to Zhejiang and Jiangsu

The remnants of Tropical Cyclone Dolphin is affecting Zhejiang and Jiangsu, with heavy rain and floods in multiple areas.

President Xi Jinping has called for enhanced disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities.

Online footage shows floodwaters surging in Changxing County, Huzhou, Zhejiang. Rescuers were deployed to save trapped villagers.

In the urban districts, streets turned into rapids.

Huzhou has also experienced heavy rain, with a station recording 171.7 mm in three hours.

Meteorologists say this is the strongest downpour since records began in 1971.

Yixing in Jiangsu also flooded owing to heavy rain. After landing in Zhejiang last Sunday, Dolphin's remaining circulation moved north to affect northern China and has returned to Zhejiang and Jiangsu. It is expected to move east-northeast toward Jilin and Heilongjiang by Monday, bringing more heavy rain. The flood season has been persistent this year.
