HK govt invites ride-hailing platform operators to apply for licence

The Hong Kong government is moving to regulate ride-hailing services, with the Transport Department inviting platform operators to apply for licences.

Applicants must have legal operating experience in cities with populations comparable to Hong Kong, and have handled an average of at least 100,000 bookings a day in 2 cities.

They also need to be registered in Hong Kong, and have a paid-up capital of at least 50 million Hong Kong dollars. Licensed platforms will have to connect their systems with the Transport Department, submit trip data and store copies in Hong Kong.

The annual licence fee will be 1.2 million Hong Kong dollars, with licences valid for up to 5 years.
