Immi Dir: HK & SZ smoothening Huanggang self-service clearance system

Director of Immigration Benson Kwok says they are working with Shenzhen authorities to fine-tune the operational systems at the crossings under the “collaborative inspection and joint clearance” model.

More than 30,000 civil servants have been mobilised to undertake four large-scale stress-tests of the Hong Kong Port Area at the redeveloped Huanggang Port.

Speaking on a Commercial Radio programme, Kwok says both the Hong Kong and Shenzhen sides are working to connect their clearance systems to ensure each self-service kiosk can “successfully and accurately” transmit travellers’ identity, facial features and fingerprint data collected at the point of departure to the point of entry.

He reminds even when travellers have registered for the self-service kiosks, they still need to carry their ID card and Home Return Permit, in case of any issues arisen during border clearance.
