Heavy rainfall hits eastern Japan on Monday, with

the country's weather authorities urging vigilance

against landslide on Niijima and Oshima islands,

south of Tokyo.

Niijima recorded more than 480 millimetres

of rain over 24 hours, the largest amount since

local records began.

Heavy rain also lashed Tokyo and nearby areas

from the early hours of Monday, disrupting train

services and forcing some school closures.

A woman was found dead in her submerged

car in Fukushima Prefecture, and

two people suffered minor injuries after

falling in heavy rain in Chiba.

The weather agency is warning against more rain

in areas facing the Pacific, as warm and damp

air approaches.
