President Xi calls for intensified rescue in Qingdao cargo ship fire

Chinese President Xi Jinping calls for intensified search and rescue efforts after a deadly fire broke out aboard a foreign cargo vessel undergoing repairs at a shipyard in the eastern city of Qingdao, state news agency Xinhua reported.

The fire that occurred at about 11:15am Thursday, and  has reportedly resulted in significant casualties, the state news agency says, without providing further details.

Xi orders a swift investigation and accountability measures.
