Court grants leave to apply for judicial review of Margaret Ng case

The court has granted leave regarding the Hong Kong Bar Association's earlier application for judicial review to challenge the tribunal's ruling on the complaint against democrat Margaret Ng.

Former pro-democracy legislator Margaret Ng was convicted of taking part in an unauthorised assembly during protests and unrest in 2019. She was handed a nine-month-long jail term, suspended for two years. Ng, who is a barrister herself, was later complained against for misconduct.

The Barristers Disciplinary Tribunal decided in June the complaint against Ng was unsubstantiated. The Hong Kong Bar Association filed an application with the High Court for judicial review, seeking to overturn the tribunal's decision.

The court granted leave to apply for judicial review and scheduled a hearing for November 9.
