Foreign Minister highlights significance of President Xi's India visit

Foreign Minister Wang Yi says President Xi Jinping's attendance at

the BRICS summit in India is of strategic significance for steering

the high-quality development for greater cooperation among member countries.

 

Wang said Xi's visit injected fresh impetus into BRICS cooperation.

He highlighted Xi's call for BRICS' countries to advance innovation-driven

development, uphold peace and stability, facilitate mutual learning and

improve global governance.

 

Wang also said XI's presence empowered the Global South: defending the

rule of law; upholding mulilateralism and the role of the United Nations;

delivering on the Agenda for Sustainable Development; and advancing

security governance.

 

The foreign minister further explained that the president's visit

guided China-India relations.

 

He said the most important consensus reached was that China

and India should remain partners.
