Former CE Tung Chee-hwa’s two-day state funeral to begin Sept 19

Former Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa's state funeral is set

to take place this Sunday.

In light of the event, the Hong Kong Jockey Club will suspend

Sunday's Sha Tin horse race and close all betting stations.

In the obituary released by Tung's funeral committee, the two-day service will take place

at Hong Kong Funeral Home's Fook Hoi Hall, with a private memorial

held between 3pm and 10pm Saturday.

A public memorial service will be held the following day beginning at 9am.

And according to the obituary issued by Tung's widow Betty Chiu,

the cortege will then depart at 11am.

Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee,

Vice-Chairperson of the 14th National Committee of the CPPCC

and the Minister of the Organisation Department of the CPC Central Committee

Shi Taifeng heads the 87-member funeral committee set up by the central authorities.

The four deputy heads are Wong Dongfeng, Vice-Chairperson

and Secretary-General of the CPPCC National Committee;

Xia Baolong, Director of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office;

Leung Chun-ying, Vice-Chairperson of the CPPCC

National Committee and former Chief Executive; and John Lee, current Chief Executive.

Other members include Zhou Ji, Director of the Liaison Office;

former Chief Executives Carrie Lam and John Tsang,

and a number of prominent business representatives.

Tung, the first chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region,

who passed away September 8 at the age of 89.
