Trump hopes Iran war nearing end as Houthi-Saudi conflicts continue

US President Donald Trump says he hopes an end to the war against Iran is near, as the conflict escalates with Saudi aircraft pounding Yemen and Houthi fighters launching drones and missiles at Saudi cities.

The Yemen armed forces released video showing what they described as strikes against Houthi premises and equipment in several areas, including in the port city of Mokha.

Hundreds of people have been killed and tens of thousands displaced in recent fighting between the Iran-backed rebel group and government forces in Yemen.

The Houthi rebels released footage showing the wreckage of what they claimed is a Saudi-operated F-15 fighter jet downed over Marib province, though AP could not independently verify the claim.

The footage came as regional officials reported that Saudi Arabia, facing dwindling missile interceptors amid an ongoing war with Iran and Houthi drone attacks, has asked nations including France, Britain, Pakistan, and Egypt to deploy air-defence teams.

Saudi officials also accused the Houthis of attempting to target Mecca with a drone, a claim the group denied.

Vital Saudi oil infrastructure and shipping routes continue to face attacks, training the kingdom's security and trade.

Elsewhere, US President Donald Trump again suggested the Iran war may be over soon despite the ongoing tensions in the wider Middle East.

DONALD TRUMP: "We're right now in the golden age of America and that (Iran) war, that war is going to end very soon. Watch, you just watch.

Trump was right about everything, you watch. They're getting decimated and they want to make a deal so badly, they call, 'we want to make a deal, we want to make', and they're not ready yet, I don't think, but we can have a deal anytime we want."
