Proposal to import elderly carers comes with 3-yr exp. requirement

The Policy Address has proposed importing foreign domestic carers specialising in elderly care.
The government says the initial plan is to mandate that the carers hold three years of experience and will be trained first at accredited organisations in their regions of origin.
Secretary for Labour and Welfare Chris Sun says the system will be based on the current labour importation mechanism of domestic helpers. Preliminary discussions are underway with regions where helpers mainly come from.
The minimum salary of these carers will be about 10 to 20% higher than regular domestic helpers.
