Foreign Ministry confirms date of President Xi Jinping's US visit

US President Donald Trump is rolling out the red carpet in Washington this week to welcome Chinese leader Xi Jinping who is making his first state visit to the country in more than a decade.

In Beijing, a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirms Xi's US trip will last from September 23 to 25.

Guo Jiakun says: "At the invitation of President Trump, President Xi will soon pay a state visit to the US. During his visit, President Xi will have in-depth exchange of views with President Trump on major issues concerning bilateral ties and world peace and development. Head-of-state diplomacy plays an irreplaceable role in providing strategic guidance to China-US relations, the exchanges of visits by the two presidents within a span of half a year will mark a milestone on historical significance."

He says: "China will work with the US to enrich the dimensions of the China-US constructive relationship of strategic stability, strengthen dialogue and cooperation and properly manage differences so as to deliver greater benefits to our two peoples and further contribute to world peace, stability, and prosperity."
