World leaders gather in NY for UN General Assembly

United Nations General Assembly holds its annual high-level meeting in New York, bringing together

world leaders as geopolitical tension continue to weigh on nations.

President Donald Trump will be there for Tuesday's opening.

Ukraine's Volodymyr Zelenskyy is preparing for major meetings,

and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to speak.

So far, the AP has not confirmed Russia's Vladimir Putin, China's Xi Jinping or North Korea's

Kim Jong Un will attend.

In recent years, those countries have generally sent senior diplomats instead.

The biggest issues this year include the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East,

climate change, inequality and artificial intelligence.

This as UN faces financial woes, driven largely by billions in unpaid US dues, which

has already led the agency to cut jobs and scale back on programmes.
