China marks 13th Martyrs' Day

Today marks China's 13th Martyrs' Day. Top party and state leaders, including Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Chinese President, presented flower baskets to fallen heroes at Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

The ceremony took place at 10:00 AM in front of the Monument to the People's Heroes at the center of Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

Xi Jinping and other leaders of the CPC Central Committee and the state attended the event alongside representatives from all walks of life.

The national anthem was played and sung at the venue, followed by a moment of silence in solemn tribute, young children singing songs and saluting, and honor guards carrying and presenting flower baskets.

After Xi Jinping straightened the ribbons on the flower baskets, state leaders walked slowly around the Monument to the People's Heroes to pay their respects.

Children and representatives from various sectors also presented flowers and paid homage at the monument.

In 2014, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress voted to designate September 30 as Martyrs' Day annually.
