A Hong Kong man has been prosecuted in Taiwan on suspicion of assault.

Local authorities have issued warrants to track down four other Hong Kong men.

The case involved Japanese writer Akio Yaita who was attacked in early July at a hotel in Taichung.

The Taichung district prosecutors office charged a 33-year-old suspected assailant surnamed Liu with assault and public insult, and seeks a five-year sentence in court.

Noting the suspect is a triad member in Hong Kong, the prosecutors office says he alongside four other Hong Kong triad members, was commissioned to assault Yaita in Taiwan.

Liu allegedly planned to flee to South Korea, but was arrested at Taichung Airport before leaving the island.
