Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, called US President Donald Trump’s latest diesel deal with Russia "a weak decision, unfortunately, a weak decision by strong partners."
Trump thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin Friday for striking a deal that will supply the US with Russian diesel before the midterms, saying it will amount to "massive amounts of oil" flowing into the United States.
The deal marks a reversal of years of US pressure on Moscow as Trump seeks to lower fuel prices ahead of the midterm elections.
Speaking to reporters at t he White House,Trump brushed off criticism from Zelenskyy.
According to a social media post from Trump, Russia will immediately supply more than 300,000 tons of diesel, followed by 500,000 tons more in November and 1 million tons "immediately thereafter."
Russia will deliver another 3 million tons "within a short period of time" after that.
The announcement comes after Trump signed a sweeping sanctions law against Russia last month to clamp down on Russia's energy economy.
