A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in Japan has strongly
condemned some Japanese politicians' actions related to the
Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo.
This included the Minister of State for Economic and Fiscal Policy
Minoru Kiuchi who visited the Shrine on Saturday.
Another 70 or so lawmakers visited the shrine on Monday. The group
included a second minister, the head of Land, Infrastructure, Transport
and Tourism Tatsunori Ibayashi.
Kyodo News reported Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi
had also sent offerings to the shrine, which honours 14 convicted
Japanese Class-A war criminals from World War Two.
Meanwhile, Kyodo News has also published public support
for Takaichi's administration having fallen to 49.1%,
the lowest level since she took office last year.
Her approval rate has fallen below 50% for the first time, and has
dropped 4.3% from the previous month.
