The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data has received 85 enquiries and complaints after data breaches exposed the personal information of at least 1600 customers across multiple companies.
The Privacy Commissioner stated investigations remained ongoing into data leaks involving Hong Kong Airlines, YOHO, and Broadway.
Officials noted affected customers would receive scam calls shortly after making purchases asking for payment or further personal information.
Meanwhile, responding to the growing popularity of smart glasses equipped with recording features, the Privacy Commissioner issued new guidelines recommending that camera-free zones explicitly ban such devices as "prolonged use" of their recording function constitutes as data collection.
