Multiple third-party service providers across various industries have recently been suspected of data leaks.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data stated it has received 99 complaints and enquiries, with the single largest loss reaching1.5 million dollars.

The PCPD is investigating reports involving companies acrossmultiple sectors, including Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Airlines, Yoho and Broadway Photo Supply Limited, due to data leaks caused by third-party service providers.

The PCPD reminds the public to guard against "spear phishing," where the scammers may use leaked personal information to craft realistic phishing SMS messages and emails, or impersonate customer service representatives to induce victims into providing bank account and credit card details.

Citizens are advised to verify the identity of any institution following up via email or telecommunications regarding orders or airlines tickets, and to refuse any suspicious transfer requests.
