A jet plunged into a Florida neighbourhood 14 kilometres from US President Donald Trump's resort Mar-a-Lago, erupted into a fireball near a busy road with authorities confirming all nine people on board lost their lives.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said there has not yet been any reports of casualties on the ground.

Dashcam footage captured the moments a Bombardier Learjet 60 plane plummeted from the sky into a residential area in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday afternoon.

The aircraft, which had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed towards the Bahamas, experienced turbulence at 35,000 feet.

The pilot had reported ice accumulation before things took a turn for the worse.

At one point, the aircraft descended at speeds of up to 30,000 feet per minute, moving beyond its design limits, according traffic control records.

The plane then nose-dived into the ground 14 kilometres from Mar-a-Lago, US President Donald Trump's resort.

The impact sent thick black smoke into the air, narrowly missing nearby homes and vehicles before leaving a fiery crater in the pavement.

Emergency services rushed to the scene amid heavy rainfall, sealing off the area and working to secure damaged power lines.

US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced federal authorities, including a team from the Federal Aviation Administration supporting the National Transportation Safety Board, launched a full investigation into the cause of the disaster.

While initial reports indicated no immediate injuries or fatalities on the ground, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis held a briefing to discuss the emergency response and ongoing security measures.

"As of now, we don't have any reports of anyone who was on the ground apart from the people in the plane, who were killed or injured as a result of debris.

Obviously, when the FAA people get here, they're going to be able to get a lot more but there was a very quick response on this." said DeSantis.

DeSantis added coordination with aviation authorities remains active to secure the perimeter and manage road closures.

However, authorities had not said who was on board the jet as investigators continued to piece together what caused the flight to go down.
