Typhoon Bavi brings heavy rain and flash floods to Northern China

As tropical cyclone Bavi continues on its northward trajectory, the mainland's northern provinces such as Hebei and Shandong are battered by heavy rain, while Liaoning is experiencing flash floods.

In Hebei Province's Kuancheng Manchu Autonomous County, local fire services personnel were deployed to rescue residents trapped by torrential currents brought about the sudden deluge.

Scores of vehicles were also washed away during the ordeal.

In neighbouring Liaoning Province, swathes of farmland in Chaoyang city were damaged by floodwaters reaching metre-high level.

This as the province's capital of Shenyang failed to escape from the harsh weather conditions, with members of the local community needing to use small rafts just to get across the city.

According to mainland meteorological authorities, Bavi was forecasted to depart from Shandong and before entering the Yellow Sea on Tuesday.
