HK Book Fair opens, wooing crowds

The Hong Kong Book Fair opens today. The seven-day event blends reading, sports and gourmet experiences, drawing massive crowds of eager visitors.

The Hong Kong Book Fair 2026 opens this morning. As soon as the gates open, a flood of visitors rushes in, many equipped with suitcases and trolleys.

Many consider the fair rich in content.

Visitor CHERYL CHOY: "I feel like it has a lot of things and book to offer. I think every single vendor here has different books, different kinds of things, I think students at 6-year-old to maybe adults can enjoy."

Visitor BERKELEY YEUNG: "I feel very excited in this book fair, there are so many books that I can read, and every book is very interesting."

But some visitors find discounts not attractive enough.

Visitor KENNETH LAU: "For this year, I just finished look around the whole area, I can only find two books, just paid about 400 dollars. If you buy one book you can have a 20% discount, compared with the book store outside, if they have discounts, mainly 15% discounts only. So I think a bit attractive but not much." For publishers and booksellers, the annual fair is a vital opportunity to showcase their brands.

Exhibitor INBAR GARDEN: "So I hope to see a lot of new things that I didn't see in the stores here. And we also have a booth of Israel, and I hope people will come and see the books of Israel. We have books on culture, on food, on art."

Several publishers set up extra booth featuring cultural products, hoping to attract international visitors and local youngsters to explore more about Hong Kong.

The Book Fair runs alongside the Sports and Leisure Expo and the World of Snacks, hosting more than 770 exhibitors to offer rich experiences.

Adult admission is set at 30 dollars alongside various discounts available.With one ticket, visitors can enjoy all three major exhibitions on the same day.
