Russian missile attack on Kyiv kills at least 10 people

A Russian missile attack on Kyiv as the city was hosting a defence industry event has killed at least 10 people and wounded nearly 100 others.

This as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says cooperation between Kyiv and Washington on drones would include a US factory to produce the unmanned aerial vehicles using Ukraine's advanced technology.

Meanwhile protests continue in Kyiv after organisers announced an open-ended campaign demanding the return of former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov.

Fire trucks and a heavy police presence were at the scene of the Russian strike on Kyiv Friday that killed 10 people and wounded 100 others. Debris scattered and heaps of metal and rubble is all that is left of some homes near the strike.

This local resident says, "I have a three-story house, and I realised that my windows were shattering. That really surprised me- it surprised me that there was no alarm. Usually we hear the alarm, and there was no alarm on TV either, even though there was an explosion."

This as President Zelenskyy said in his nightly address Friday, that Russia has prepared missiles for a new massive strike on Ukraine, adding that preliminary information indicates it will occur within the next 48 hours.

Zelenskyy is set to meet US President Donald Trump at the White House on July 28.

Meanwhile protests continued in Kyiv Friday after organisers announced an open-ended campaign demanding the return of former Defense Minister Mykailo Fedorov. Iryna Kibalko attended with her daughter.

"Why am I here?" she said. "Because dismissing only the commander-in-chief (Gen. Oleksandr Syrskyi) was only half a measure. It was the right decision because it removed the root of one problem, but now we also want to keep an effective defence minister. We'd like Fedorov to remain in office."

The demonstrations have become one of the largest sustained protest movements in Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion, reflecting growing public pressure over wartime political and military leadership.
