Police issue wanted notice for suspect van-ramming Berlin Pride event

German Police issue a wanted notice for a suspect after a van slams into a crowd at Berlin's pride celebration, killing one person and injuring 16 others.

German authorities issue a wanted notice and is asking the public for help as they look for a fugitive suspect who drove a van into crowds gathering at a park during an LGBTQ+ parade in Berlin. The 21-year-old suspect, whom the police identified as Abdul B, is believed to have injured people with the van.

A Berlin police spokesman says the suspect is related to Islamic extremists in Berlin.

However, the police still has no information regarding his motives and his role in the crime.

Police and prosecutors are calling for help to find the suspect but warns the public to avoid direct contact with him as he may be armed and dangerous.

The white van rammed into crowds in Tiergarten park around 10pm Saturday, where people gathered for Berlin's famous LGBTQ+ pride event before colliding with a tree.

Police say one or more persons apparently then left the van and several victims were stabbed. The event was called off.

The closing party, known as Christopher Street Day, was ongoing at that time, following a pride parade featuring some 80 floats earlier in the day.

More than 2,200 police officers have been on duty since Saturday morning to protect the LGBTQ+ events in Berlin.

Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner expresses shock, saying the incident was an attack on a rally that represented tolerance and peace, while calling the act "brutal."
