A Japanese character CHIIKAWA-themed exhibition opens to the public Saturday at a Tsim Sha Tsui mall and along the harbourfront, running through September 6.

Among the highlights is the world's first CHIIKAWA-themed giant carousel installation set against the Victoria Harbour waterfront.

But the organiser apologised tonight that the installation requires repairs after detecting unusual noises, despite its overall structural safety. Not able to rotate for now, the carousel will instead operate as a static photo spot.

Organisers say ticket holders are entitled to a refund.

Those who purchased tickets with carousel seating may also opt for a partial refund of 130 dollars -- the value of the carousel ride. And as additional compensation, they will still be able to sit on the installation and receive a commemorative souvenir.
