Cabbie dead in a 3-car traffic accident on Lantau Island

A three-car pile-up on Lantau Island claimed the life of a taxi driver with at least 11 others injured.

The accident involved a bus, a taxi and a truck. The incident happened around 8 pm. Preliminary reports indicate the cabbie was trapped in the vehicle with its passenger injured. The taxi driver was certified dead after being rushed to hospital. Multiple passengers on the bus were injured.

Reportedly, the taxi was driving after a truck along Cheung Tung Road towards Tung Chung when it collided head-on with a Discovery Bay DB03P bus that was heading towards Sunny Bay Station.

The Transport Department says owing to the accident, the entire route of Cheung Tung Road near Sunny Bay is closed with the airport-bound slow lane on North Lantau Highway closed.
