Wang Yi met India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval

China and India on Tuesday held the 25th round of talks between the two countries' special representatives on the boundary question in Beijing, state agency Xinhua reported.

The meeting was co-chaired by Foreign Minister Wang Yi and India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Wang expresses a willingness to strengthen communication with the Indian side and properly handle the border issue between the two countries.

Wang says China is ready to enhance communication with India to resolve differences, overcome obstacles, and achieve mutual success. As the two nations gradually resume exchanges and cooperation, both sides should work together to maintain peace and tranquility in border areas.

He further notes that both sides should draw lessons from history, place the border issue in its proper context within bilateral relations, and press ahead, avoiding stagnation, regression, or deviation from the right course. He emphasises making dialogue, peace, consultation and cooperation the mainstream, thereby injecting positive momentum into the healthy and stable development of bilateral ties.

Doval meanwhile says India and China are partners, not rivals. A stable and predictable relationship serves the shared interests of both peoples. India is willing to deepen multilateral cooperation with China and effectively manage border areas, seeking a mutually acceptable solution to the border issue and jointly upholding peace and tranquility along the border.

The world's two most populous nations, both nuclear powers, share a roughly 3,800-km (2,400-mile), largely undemarcated and disputed border in the Himalayas.
