Politburo meets to make arrangements on flood relief efforts in Xizang

The Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee convened a meeting to make arrangements on rescue and relief efforts after a devastating mudslide hit Gyirong County in Xizang, empathising to spare no effort in searching for and rescuing the missing.

President Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee chaired the meeting. The leaders observed a moment of silence to mourn the victims of the disaster.

The disaster occurred in a severely cold plateau region with steep valleys, variable weather, which poses significant challenges to emergency rescue operations.

According to the meeting, search and rescue plans should be formulated in a scientific manner, and every effort should be made to search for and rescue the missing.

The meeting also called for conducting inspections to enhance the capacity to identify potential risks and hazards.
