Ontario premier responds to Trump's decision to rename Lake Ontario

The premier of Canada's province of Ontario responds to US President Donald Trump's latest move to rename Lake Ontario as "Lake America" by installing a giant sign displaying the lake's traditional name.

It's always going to be Lake Ontario, now and forever. That's our message to President Trump. We're resilient, and we're strong Canadians. We're always going to protect our sovereignty - always. We'll never, ever back down from a bully ever.

Ford, along with several other Canadian leaders, have mostly ridiculed the White House's decision.

Trump had earlier ordered US federal agencies to call Lake Ontario "Lake America" after tensions heightened between the two North American neighbours amid months of tariffs and the US president's threats to annex Canada as the 51st state.
