Tokyo and 6 prefectures along the Pacific coast hit by heavy rainfall

The Japan Meteorological Agency has warned that Tokyo and six prefectures along the Pacific coast will experience heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving 300 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.

On the Pacific side of Japan, Hachijo-jima, an island south of Tokyo, was already lashed by heavy rain in the morning.

Under the influence of Tropical Storm Krovanh and the autumn rain front, a northward-moving warm and moist airstream has brought unstable weather to Japan’s Pacific coast.

Authorities urge residents of Tokyo, Saitama, Kanagawa, Chiba, Shizuoka, Aichi and Mie prefectures to remain vigilant.
