Leslie Cheung remembered at 70 as his star power shines on

Saturday marks what would have been the 70th birthday of late Hong Kong superstar Leslie Cheung.

Alongside exhibitions, fans are also putting on displays of photographs and music videos to keep his memory alive.

In Days of Being Wild, Leslie Cheung's character famously described a bird with no legs -- one that had been flying for 70 years without ever touching the ground.

Twenty-three years after his death, his star power continues to captivate.

A giant screen at a shopping mall is displaying a collection of previously unseen photographs,

including images of Cheung with renowned art director William Chang Suk Ping.

A Japanese fan, who was born in 2005 -- two years after Cheung's death -- was inspired by the superstar to learn Cantonese.

She says the first time she watched "Gor Gor" -- the nickname of Leslie -- was three years ago, when she watched Farewell My Concubine.

Another mainland Chinese fan Lesly says every Saturday and Sunday, remembering Cheung has become part of the weekend routine here in Central.

Cheung's choreographer Chris witnessed first-hand during rehearsals, just how relentlessly Leslie Cheung pursued perfection.

Cheung later took the initiative to explain why he was so demanding.

The choreographer cites Leslie as saying in showbiz, the more famous you become, the more people will look for opportunities to criticise you. You can only give 200 percent of your efforts in your performances.

A shopping mall is also recreating Leslie Cheung's legendary Hong Kong Coliseum concert in a free tribute performance.

Fans who donated to support the event in advance will receive a commemorative ticket recreated from the original concert ticket as a keepsake to remember the superstar.
