A 62-year-old man who was earlier deemed unfit to stand trial for his alleged role in the fatal shooting during an attempted robbery in 1991 fell unconscious in his High Court prison cell.
He was later pronounced dead at hospital.
The suspect, who was only captured in 2023 when trying to cross the border, was arrested on suspicion for allegedly shooting and killing a jewellery store staff during a robbery on Pei Ho Street in Sham Shui Po in 1991.
He was earlier charged with murder and attempted robbery, but was subsequently deemed unfit to stand trial by the jury owing to his terminal cancer diagnosis.
Authorities noted that the man was set to appear in court this afternoon during which he lost his consciousness in his prison cell at the High Court and later pronounced dead at hospital.
