Beijing ousts top military officials in widening corruption crackdown

Beijing on Monday approves a decision to expel vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission Zhang Youxia and CMC member Liu Zhenli from the Communist Party and the military over allegations of disloyalty and exceptional corruption.

It follows a meeting of the Political Bureau of the Party's Central Committee which deliberated and adopted investigation reports submitted by the CMC.

The pair is accused of crossing red lines and basic limits with serious violations of discipline and law, state media reports, adding their "political and economic wrongdoings were intertwined, and corrupt self-enrichment coexisted with dereliction of duty and abuse of office".

Both officials were stripped of their state military titles in late August.

Also on Monday, former Shenzhen mayor Qin Weizhong has been placed under graft probe by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.

It comes less than a month after he abruptly stepped down from his post.
