Yacht nearly crashes into several kayak rowers in Sai Kung

Some kayakers were nearly knocked over by a yacht while participating in a race in Sai Kung on Saturday.

The Marine Department says it will conduct an investigation into the incident.

Footage of the incident shows the vessel on the verge of crashing into a kayak carrying several people.

The wave left behind by the speeding yacht nearly caused the rowing team to fall overboard.

This during the Sai Kung Coastal Challenge organised by the Hong Kong Yacht Club.

One participant says he believes the yacht deliberately sped up near the High Island Reservoir.

The Marine Department says it has yet to receive a report on the matter but will actively investigate the incident, stressing any individuals found to committed maritime offences will be dealt with according to the law.
