Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz visited the Jordan valley on Thursday where a new barrier is being erected.
Israel announced in December 2025 that it had begun building an 80-kilometer barrier along its border with Jordan.
Katz said the construction was aimed at preventing Iran and its proxies from establishing an eastern front against Israel.
The broader project would strengthen security along about 500 kilometers of eastern border areas, at a cost of around $1.7 billion, according to Israeli government.
"We are establishing maximum defense to protect the citizens of Israel and to ensure that no one would even consider invading the State of Israel," said Netanyahu.
