Ukraine's sweeping drone blitz against Russia has set several key oil terminals ablaze and disrupted aviation, just as Moscow's top diplomat convenes with Gulf states during his Bahrain trip to shore up energy stability.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says he's thankful the US has resumed intelligence sharing following a period of restrictions on satellite services operated by SpaceX. In a warning to the Trump administration, Zelenskyy says it will be a "historic mistake" if Washington formally aligns itself with Moscow.

A wave of Ukrainian drones rained down in Russia's second-largest city St. Petersburg in an overnight assault, leading to at least one death and plunging oil facilities and industrial warehouses into blazing infernos.

Plumes of thick smoke billowed over the city of 5.6 million people.

The local governor said both the Petersburg Oil Terminal and the Ruchi oil depot were burning.

Footage showed fire sparked at a logistics centre belonging to online retailer Ozon.

Internet company VK also confirms its data centre in the Leningrad region was targeted, but its services remains available to users as usual.

Take-offs and landings are disrupted at Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg, the Federal Air Transport Agency says, while passengers and staff members are evacuated to safe zones.

Kyiv's strikes on oil facilities aimed at squeezing the Kremlin's war revenues collide with Moscow's diplomatic efforts in the Middle East to position itself as guarantor of stability in global energy markets.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in Manama, Bahrain, on Sunday that "energy security is an issue that unites us all in the material sphere," as he refers to cooperation with partners through OPEC+ and the Gas Exporting Countries Forum.

He accused the Ukrainian leader of repeatedly obstructing peace negotiations, claiming attacks on Russia's civilian targets came on the heels of agreements to resume talks brokered by US President Donald Trump.

This as US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who has landed in Uzbekistan, prompted both sides to focus on ending their four-and-a-half-year war.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted in comments published on Sunday that Washington has resumed providing his country critical intelligence to help it deter Russian missile strikes after a brief interruption.

He expressed his appreciation for the "de-blocked" intelligence-sharing and declares in an NBC interview that they "will not prevail" if the US officially sides with Putin, saying recent American actions including signing deal to import Russian diesel and waiving sanctions will hurt Ukraine.
