Almost 159 million Brazilians are eligible to vote Sunday in a closely contested presidential runoff between President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva

and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro.

The Associated Press Mauricio Savarese said "It's going to be down to the wire. Polls are showing they're very close in the race.

Flavio Bolsonaro won the first round by two percentage points, and no one knows who's going to lead the biggest economy in Latin America over the next four years."

Bolsonaro finished ahead of Lula in the first round with 47 percent of the vote to 45. Recent polls suggest a tight race as Lula seeks a fourth nonconsecutive term.

The election also carries implications for relations with the United States, where President Trump is an ally of the Bolsonaro family.

Jair Bolsonaro is serving a sentence for attempting a coup after losing his reelection bid.
