Crowds flood Venezuelan capital as opposition leader Machado returns

Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel laureate Maria Corina Machado returned to Venezuela on Sunday, appearing publicly in the country for the first time since December with supporters saying that "she will give us the truth, freedom and the country all of us deserve."

Thousands of jubilant supporters rushed onto the streets, setting off fireworks and waiting for Machado's caravan to arrive in the capital, Caracas.

Her arrival followed seven unsuccessful attempts to return from exile, with opposition activists accusing Venezuela's government of denying her entry.

Supporters celebrated her return amid growing uncertainty surrounding Venezuela's political future since the deposition of former president Nicolas Maduro.
