Wang Fuk Court fire report expected Thursday with reforms planned

It is understood the report submitted by the Independent Committee on the Wang Fuk Court fire will be announced as early as Thursday,with Chief Executive John Lee expected to host a press conference.

Another press conference will follow the next day, during which bureau secretaries from relevant departments will detail the reforms in response to the report's recommendations, including the criminalisation of bid-rigging.

Earlier, the government outlined preliminary regulatory directions regarding enhanced fire safety, major building overhauls and the oversight of owner's corporations, with several bill draft set for submission to the Legislative Council within this year.

It is understood that the government will establish a steering committee, led by the Chief Secretary for Administration, to implement and oversee all reform measures.

The Independent Committee submitted its report on the Wang Fuk Court fire to the Chief Executive last week. The report spans approximately 1,000 pages across more than 10 chapters.
